Commonly quoted legacy signature presets
| Legacy route preset | Common dimensions | Common file limit |
|---|---|---|
| Protean / NSDL reference | 4.5 × 2 cm; about 354 × 157 px at 200 DPI | 50 KB |
| UTIITSL reference | 400 × 200 px at 600 DPI | 60 KB |
These are widely repeated older specifications, not a promise about the current upload screen. Since April 2026, new Indian PAN applications use Form 93 or Form 94. Check that form’s current requirements before using a legacy NSDL PAN card photo resizer or UTI PAN card photo resizer preset.
PAN card signature size in KB, pixels and DPI
Pixels set the image’s width and height; they do not determine its file size by themselves. A noisy or highly detailed signature scan can be larger than a clean, tightly cropped version at the same pixel dimensions. DPI is chiefly relevant when a form specifies a physical size or print resolution; it is not a substitute for setting the right pixel dimensions.
For the common legacy Protean size, converting 4.5 × 2 cm at 200 DPI gives roughly 354 × 157 pixels after rounding. Keep the original aspect ratio and do not stretch the handwritten mark to fill the entire rectangle.
Prepare and verify the signature file
- Sign with the writing instrument and on the background requested by the current application. A common preparation method is dark ink on plain white paper.
- Scan or photograph the original evenly, then crop to include the full signature and a small margin.
- Use a PAN card signature resizer to set the current requested dimensions, then export to the accepted format.
- Check the saved file’s extension, dimensions and actual size in the file information on your device. Reopen it at full size to check readability.
Do not copy, redraw, or alter the signature to make it look like a different signature. Compression should reduce file weight, not remove strokes or change the appearance.
