Choose the current form and route
For an Indian individual, Protean’s current guidance uses Form 93 for a new PAN application; UTIITSL directs Indian new applicants to Forms 93/94. Form 93’s instructions state that a representative assessee is mandatory when the applicant is a minor. The parent or legal guardian should complete that section as the application directs.
Do not use the old Form 49A process based on older articles: official provider pages state the new forms apply from 1 April 2026. The current live application is the authority for which fields and verification methods are available.
Gather the child’s and representative’s details
Prepare the child’s legal name, date of birth, address, and the identity details requested by the application. Under Protean’s published Form 93 document list, a minor’s Aadhaar is relevant, and accepted documents belonging to a parent or guardian can be used as the minor’s proof of identity and address. You still need to provide the child’s date-of-birth evidence as instructed.
Protean’s Form 93 list specifically says a birth certificate issued by an authorised registrar/municipal authority (or applicable Indian Consulate) is mandatory as DOB proof for individuals born on or after 1 October 2023. Review the current list for other dates of birth and accepted evidence.
Submit and follow the application
- Start at the official Protean or UTIITSL portal and select the new-PAN application for an Indian individual.
- Enter the child’s information and complete the representative assessee section as the form requires.
- Upload or submit the child’s supporting documents and any parent/guardian documents accepted for identity or address proof.
- Provide photo, signature, Aadhaar, consent, or verification items only as requested by the chosen live flow. Image requirements can differ by provider and submission method.
- Review names, dates, addresses, and document uploads before submission. Save the acknowledgement number and use the provider’s status service to track the request.
Photo requirements for minors are especially form-specific. Older instructions may say a guardian’s photo is used in some circumstances; do not assume this applies to current Forms 93/94. Follow the exact image field instructions shown for the child’s application.
